THE BREED

The Portuguese Water Dog (PWD), affectionately nicknamed “Portie,” is a breed steeped in history and renowned for its intelligence, athleticism, and unwavering loyalty. Originating from the Algarve region of Portugal, these dogs were indispensable partners to fishermen, working tirelessly along the coast. Their duties ranged from retrieving tackle and fish to herding fish into nets and even acting as messengers between boats and shore.

CARE
